In fifth grade I got sick with a cold and I was gone for two straight weeks. When I came back to school all of my friends seemed to have separated into cliques.
Through the next couple of days I talked with them at times, but I was mostly alone. One day at lunch one of my friends came up to me and handed me an envelope. She then resided back to her group of friends.
I remember reading through the letter, and by the end of it I had tears running down my face. After finishing my lunch I went outside to read my book. They all came up to me and asked how my book was.
I decided not to talk to them. Violet was the only girl who had nothing to do with the letter. She stood up for me while I gave everyone else the silent treatment. They were mad at me for not talking to them. Two weeks later they had all apologized. Some of them say it started as a joke, and some say they just thought it was a good idea.
Sometimes I wish that I could have been a fly on the wall when they decided to write the letter. I believe in the importance of friendship.
I also believe in the power to forgive and forget. I know it is difficult, but if you keep a good heart you can get through it. Keeping friends can sometimes be hard, but having no friends is even harder.
